Every Monday at 6:30 PM- Live music and dancing at the Elkmont Pickin’ & Grinnin’ at the Elkmont Depot located downtown Elkmont, AL. Contact: 931-427-6296.        

Every Thursday at 5:30 PM – Live music and dancing at the Ardmore Pickin’ & Grinnin’ at the Ardmore, TN Annex Building located on Main Street. Contact: 931-427-2141 or 256-423-7588.        

Every Tuesday, Friday at Saturday at 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM – Live music and dancing at Johnny’s Place, 14441 Lucas Ferry Road, Athens.  Smoke and alcohol free facility with beverages and finger foods.

1st & 3rd Thursday at 6:30 PM, the Athens Dulcimers play at the Athens Recreation Center, Athens, AL, located on Hwy 251. Everyone is welcome to enjoy the music or learn to play the dulcimer. Contact: 256-233-1262, Terry Todd.        

Every Thursday night at 7:00 PM, the Barbershop Harmony Society Chapter Chorus, Southern Splendor rehearsal at Athens Bible School, Athens, AL. The public is welcome to come and enjoy the music. Contact: Robert.Duling@hanson.biz.        

1st Saturday night of each month (March – October) at 3:00 PM – 9:00 PM, Athens Cruise In Downtown Athens, AL. Contact: Bland Allen 256-603-1227 or 256-232-5411.     

The Friends of the Athens-Limestone Public Library holds used book sales at the library, 405 E. South St.  The sales are the first Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the second and fourth Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Some of the books may be valuable.  Choose from cookbooks, mysteries, westerns, classics, and religious books.  Most are in extremely good condition.  For more information, call 256-232-1233.

American Cancer Society Night

Join the American Cancer Society at the Athens Chick-fil-A restaurant for a night of delicious food and fun.  Contact 256-535-1088.

Trinity High School Grand Reunion

September 3-4 at 6:00 – 9:00 PM

Picnic on Friday at 12:00 – 5 PM at Lincoln Bridgeforth Park (corner of Washington Street and Hine Street)

Street Dance on Friday at 6:00 – 11:00 PM at Lincoln Bridgeforth Park

Parade on Saturday at 4:00 PM leaving from Lincoln Bridgeforth Park on Washington Street, going to the square, and returning to the park.

Dinner and program on Saturday at 6:00 – 11:00 PM at the Limestone Event Center on Pryor Street.

Art on the Square

 Crystal Cup Golf Tournament

September 16 at 11:00 AM – Tee time 1:00 PM

Piece Makers Build Harvest of Quilts

KALB Duck and Run 5K        

September 18 at 8:00 AM        

Registration Closing Date Saturday, September 11, 2010 @ 11:59 PM.  Race begins and ends at Big Spring Memorial Park in Athens, AL. One water station mid-way. The course is certified, AL10016JD. It is a beautiful, fast course through downtown Athens and the Houston and Beaty Historical Districts. Race Day registration begins at 6:45 AM. Race begins at 8:00 AM. T-Shirts guaranteed to the first 100 entrants. Must pre-register to guarantee size. Pre-registration is $15. Race Day registration is $20. Fiddlin’ on the Square & BBQ        

September 25        

Spirit of Athens organization invites musicians to bring your instruments to the Limestone County Courthouse lawn and participate in the “Shade Tree Picking”. DAV Veterans Needs Benefit Concert  

September 25 at 7:00 PM

House  Concert featuring David Grier and Charlie Cushman

September 28 at 7:00 – 9:00 PM

This special concert features banjoist Charlie Cushman and guitarist David Grier at the Athens Visitors Center.  Only 75 tickets will be sold to the concert.  Tickets are $20.00 each and will be available at the Athens Visitors Center starting July 26th.   This concert offers attendees the opportunity to talk with the musicians, request songs, etc.  For more information call 256-232-5411

House Concert featuring Iron Horse

Tennessee Valley Old Time Fiddlers Convention        

October 1-2        

Athens State University will host the 44th annual Tennessee Valley Old Time Fiddlers Convention at the school’s campus in Athens, Alabama. The musical competitions will be held on the steps of historic Founders Hall. A total of $11,870 in prize money will be awarded. The convention is sponsored annually by the Athens State University Foundation and the Greater Limestone County Chamber of Commerce. Proceeds from the convention fund student scholarships and other university projects. The convention has historically attracted more than 15,000 people for the two-day event, with more than 200 musicians participating in the musical competition. The coup de gras for the convention is the naming of the “Fiddle Champion.” Competition for the crown is always fierce and this year will be no different. Ardmore AL/TN Civitan Club Annual Bean Day        

October 9 at 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM        

If you enjoy home cooked pinto or white beans, cole slaw, corn bread, drink, vidalia onions, relish and delicious desserts, this is the meal for you. Proceeds from the event go to help fund the annual Christmas Toy Chest project which provides Christmas gifts for the less fortunate. Contact 931-427-5523 or 256-233-4848.       

9th Annual Apple Annie Charity Golf Tournament

Athens Volksmarch Kickoff

Athens Storytelling Festival        

29-30 October at 10:00 AM – 10:00 PM        

The event features nationally acclaimed storytellers giving performances throughout the weekend. Up to 10,000 people plus are expected to attend the event(s). The performances will be held in a festival tent located on the historic, Limestone County Courthouse Square, in downtown Athens, AL. Businesses are open for shoppers and delicious food will be available at the downtown restaurants and food vendors.
