Athens State University

POSITION:                           Assistant Professor of Mathematics

 STARTING DATE:             August 2010

 DUTIES:                                In addition to adhering to the general faculty guidelines as specified by the University and Employee Handbook, by the Vice President for Academic Affairs, and by the State Board of Education, duties will include:         

 

  • Teaching undergraduate courses in mathematics
  • Teaching of these courses will be delivered during the day, evening, weekend, or in Distance Learning formats
  • Assisting in academic advising of B.S. Mathematics students
  • Participation in committee activities and departmental duties
  • Assuming other professional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences or other appropriate administrative personnel

 QUALIFICATIONS:           Required:

  • A Master’s degree in mathematics or mathematics education with at least 18 semester hours of graduate credit in mathematics from a regionally accredited institution
  • Teaching experience in mathematics courses at the college level
  • Experience with technology and teaching with technology (preferred MAPLE and graphing calculators)

 Preferred:

  • An earned doctorate in mathematics or mathematics education or all but dissertation (ABD) in the same from a regionally accredited institution
  • Teaching in a blended or distance format using Blackboard or equivalent platform and audio/video platforms such a WIMBA and Tegrity
  • Current participation in professional mathematics organizations or publications
  • Teaching experience in 6-12 mathematics

           

RANK & SALARY:             Faculty rank and salary will be based on education and teaching experience according to the Athens State University salary schedule.

                                                            (9-month Doctorate range is $42,256 – $71,548)

                                                            (9-month Master’s range is $34,732 – $68,667)

  • Personal letter of application
  • Resume
  • Unofficial transcripts from the college or university from which the highest degree was conferred.  Upon an offer of employment, official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended must be submitted. Continued employment is contingent upon receipt of transcripts from all colleges and universities attended.
  • At least one Letter of Work Experience in writing from current or previous employers confirming the required and/or preferred level of experience as stated in the ‘Qualifications’ section.  All professional letters must be original, on letterhead, and signed by the writer.

  • Complete application packages must be received in the Office of Human Resources no later than 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 30, 2010, to ensure consideration.
